Club Singles Championships

The HHTC Club Singles Championship rounds are played throughout the Real Tennis season and arranged between players within the play by date deadlines. Players compete in best of 3 full set matches in a knockout tournament format. The Finals are played on "Finals Day" on a specified date in May upon entry.

Club Tournaments

Tufton Racket

The Tufton Racket is a Singles Handicap Tournament. This competition starts with ‘round robin’ groups of 4 players. Each group plays over a 3-hour session (9.50am-1.20pm; 1.20pm-4.50pm) on a selected Saturday/Sunday in February or March.

Matches consist of one 6 game set or 30 minutes (whichever is first), and are played off current handicaps.  The Winner and Runner-up of each group play in the knockout rounds the day before "Finals Day" on a specified date in May.

Swiss Singles

The Swiss Singles consists of each player playing 4 best of 3 set handicap singles matches over the summer months from a group of 16 players of similar standard.

​

The 1st round is a random draw with winners go into the top section and losers into bottom. In round 2 players will play a new opponent drawn from their section. This repeats in round 3 and 4 with everyone completing 4 matches.

​

At the end of the event players will receive an overall ranking 1-16 based on their performance throughout the tournament. (for example 4/4 wins = 1st place ranking).

Summer League

The Summer League consists of 16 pairs playing in a league format throughout the summer months.

​

The format for each match is 2 games of singles and 1 doubles all 1 first to 8 game set played off handicap. Players are seeded by current handicaps when playing each match for example Singles: 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 Doubles Team A vs Team B. Each team will play a maximum of 3 group stage matches followed by a knockout stage.

Subs are allowed if a player is injured or unavailable to play.

Wednesday Night Pennant

In the Wednesday Night Pennant teams compete in a round robin group stage with the top two teams qualify for the Final.

 

Each team has 4 players. From that squad of 4, 3 players will be selected for each match. This is the Captain’s responsibility. These players will then be 1, 2 or 3, with the no.1 player having the better handicap and so on.

 

All 3 players will get to play 1 singles match and 2 doubles matches off handicap and all matches are 1 six game set (no time limit this year).

​

In total there will be 6 games played on the night. Each Rubber won will yield a point. The winning team on the night will be given 1 extra point for the outright win. In the event of match ending 3 rubbers all, the winning team will be decided on games won. 1 point will also be given to each team if they can field a full side from their team list.

Home teams are responsible for providing food and refreshments. Home teams are those that appear on the left side of the fixture. Each team will be required to provide food and refreshments 3 times during the league.

Parent And Offspring

The Parent and Offspring is a fun Handicap Family Doubles Tournament played over a weekend date. In the group stages pairs compete in matches of one 6 game set within a 30 minute limit. Winners receive 3 points and the losers receive 1 point.

 

The top 2 pairs in the group will then contest the final in a one 6 game set. 

Christmas Hangover Doubles

The Hangover Doubles is a fun festive Doubles tournament played on 1 day within the Christmas period.

​

In the group stages pairs compete in matches of one 6 game set within a 30 minute limit. Winners receive 3 points and the losers receive 1 point.

 

The top 2 pairs from each group will then contest the semi finals and final in a one 6 game set. 

​

Hatfield Hurricane

The Hurricane is a doubles event but all players enter as individuals, to be paired up with their partner at the tournament dinner on Friday Night in the Jaipur restaurant.  The tournament will then be played in round-robin groups of 4 off full handicap, with the top 2 from each group going through to the knock-out stage!

 

Entry fee for the event includes the tennis, all food & drink on Saturday and prizes.  All entrants must attend the dinner on Friday evening, where pairs are drawn and be available to play all day Saturday and up to mid-afternoon on Sunday.  There will also be a fun gambling aspect to the tournament so everyone must be prepared to wager £20 via a tote pool, with further gambling opportunities available throughout the event.

 

The whole point of the Hatfield Hurricane is a fun doubles event where everyone gets fully involved and keeps an interest throughout the event.  

National Tournaments at HHTC

The Billy Ross Skinner

The Billy Ross Skinner is an invitational event for the best 16 ladies available in the UK, paired up with 16 men of a suitable standard to give each pair an even chance of winning the title.

​

This best of 3 sets Handicap Doubles event is played over a Friday, Saturday and Sunday in February in a unique knockout format that guarantees all entries at least two matches whilst competing in the tournament. The event is organised externally by Viv Dawes.​

Category D Championships - National Level Singles Open (Handicap band 30-39)

HHTC have the honour of hosting the Category D National Singles Open event for players between 30-39 handicap which is split into 2 divisions 30-34 and 35-39 from entries from all around the country.

​

Played over Friday, Saturday and Sunday players compete in a best of 3 full sets off level knockout matches with both finals completed on the Sunday. 

​
